STOCKTON - The Fire Department wants every home in Stockton to be equipped with a working smoke detector before the end of the year and is willing to give them away in order to achieve that goal.
Three local Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouses recently donated to the Stockton Fire Department about 1,200 smoke detectors and the equipment to install them, Fire Capt. Jay Anema said.
The Fire Department does not know how many Stockton homes are without smoke detectors, Anema said.
Firefighters also routinely check detectors during medical calls when the circumstances allow, Anema said.
Those in need of a smoke detector, or just new batteries for one, can call the Fire Department at (209) 937-8271.
